Hello

Every once in a great while I stumble on a product that I really, really like.  It doesn't happen very often.  But it has happened now.  (And, yes, I am an affiliate.  I believe in it enough to endorse it on all my websites.)

And it answers a question that I get frequently:  What html editor should I use?

NAMO WEB EDITOR

This unpretentious box contains a whollop of a program.  It has

  • Tables
  • Image formatting (See the nicely rounded corners around the image of the box?  That's from the image component of Namo WebEditor.)
  • Easy text placement
  • Spelling checker
  • Easy list construction (like this list)
  • Text formatting (italics, bold, color)
  • Etc., etc., etc.

OVERVIEW:

No free or inexpensive HTML editor can compete with DreamWeaver or FrontPage. There is a huge difference between a $99 program and a $299 program. Having said that, I have yet to want to do anything, anything at all, that I have not been able to do in Namo.

Namo is designed for beginners, as a way of integrating basic HTML into their websites. I tried NVU and hated it -- it couldn't even give me a line of text without smooshing the words together. So I found Namo. And it is a decent inexpensive alternative for beginners. It works a lot like MSWord in its use of bolds, etc. It creates great tables (better than FrontPage, in my opinion). It allows for integration of images, and handles images very well. It has tremendous flexibility in terms of design. Basically, if you can dream of it, Namo can create it. It does stuff that I haven't even tried out yet.

But it does have drawbacks. My biggest issue is that it has a lot of background noise. I really wish they would do away with all that extraneous code. The code makes it hard to read the real html, and makes it more challenging for a quick load (although, in honesty, I've had no trouble at all with load time).

Namo is not perfect. But I don't know an html editor that is perfect. I've used FrontPage for years and while I do like it, the learning curve is pretty big. Others swear by DreamWeaver.

So consider what it is that you want to accomplish, then look for the editor that will make it as easy as possible for your style of working.

I actually grew up on Microsoft FrontPage.  I created about a dozen different websites with FrontPage, and agonized over each and every component.  FrontPage is not easy to learn.

Then when I found Namo Web Editor,  Wow!  What a difference.

Easy for Newbies

The interface is so similar to Microsoft Word that there is hardly any learning curve at all.  I've taught this program to people in just a few minutes!

Easy to Transition to Namo WebEditor

Are you using something else now, and want to find something more comprehensive?  Don't worry.  It's easy to shift over to Namo WebEditor.  Just install Namo WebEditor.  Open your page into it, and begin using all of its power.  Immediately.  No hassles.

With BLOCKBUILDER.  Create your pages in Namo WebEditor.  Then just COPY and PASTE the HTML into the block in BlockBuilder.  Everything is all aligned and looks great.

(Hint:  When you open Namo, or any html web editor, click on the "html" tab and delete all the code above < body >.  Then go to the bottom, and delete all the code below < /body >.)  You then have a "clean slate" to create your page on.  Do this with every new page you create.)

Uploading Your Own HTML.  Use this program, just like you would use FrontPage or Dream Weaver or any other HTML generator.  Except it's easier.  And cheaper.

And the best part?  It's only $99.00.

All of that.  And low cost too.  It just doesn't get any better than that.
