Once upon a time in the long ago web world, "block builder" images, including SBI images and headers were, well ... kind of dorky. No more. SBI has taken leaps and bounds to create exciting, dynamic 2- and 3-column templates that kind of jump off the screen.
SBI has a secret. It has a pool of extraordinary designers ... hundreds, if not thousands of them. They are actual webmasters who use SBI.
Every so often SBI calls on these creative webmasters for a template contest. Prizes run into many thousands of dollars, so the competition gets heated. The dynamic designs you see above are from our most recent competition. There were HUNDREDS of great designs submitted.
"So," you ask, "why isn't The SBI Coach using one of these great designs?"
Well, truth be told, I am. I am using this one:

I just changed the the header (since my site isn't about limes), and it became mine.
All the CSS settings came from the template. It was just so easy to change a color here and there. And if I ever want to change the design, I can shift in a new one in a jiffy.
And THAT is the real secret to SBI images and headers. Everything is created to be easy, with all the hard stuff done behind the scenes. A whole team of techs worked for months to make this all happen, and now it works very, very well. The set of templates you see are available now as CSS downloads, and will be available in BlockBuilder soon.
The easiest way to work with images in SBI is to go through the Graphics Library. In the Graphics Library, you can access Picnic, a really great -- again, easy to use -- graphics program. Here is where you can re-size it, crop it, spiffy up the lighting, add text and borders to all your SBI images. And when you are done, there is a button to push that will automatically save it to your Graphics Library in SBI. And using Picnic is totally free with your SBI membership!
The hardest part about SBI images and headers is finding them in the first place. Here are three great sources I can recommend.
Many sites benefit from personal photos. If so, use your own. Picnic and SBI can only work with jpg, jpeg, and gif images, so you will need to save the image in one of those formats. If yours are in a different format, try using Bimp Lite to save it to a different image format. Bimp Lite is a free program, and it works well.
Also, you might be able to capture it by right clicking on the image, choosing "Save Image As", and save it to your folder or desktop. Be sure to designate ",jpg" or ".gif" as the image extension. There are many, many different types of images, so check to make sure the extension change works ok on yours.
Get access to thousands of amazing photos at iStockphoto. Many are very cheap, about $1 to $3. You can take a look without buying anything at all. When you do buy, buy the smallest. At any rate, don't buy the biggest. You probably won't need images larger than 300 - 350 pixels wide.
And while we're on it, What the dickens is a pixel? And why do you want them on your website?
A pixel is like a little pen marking, like a tiny period. Roughly speaking, there are about 100 pixels to the inch on a computer monitor. So if your image is 300 pixels wide, it is about 3" wide. That's about as big as you want to get for your page. Much bigger and it looks like you are shouting.
Your header will be wider than 300 pixels. Sometimes it is comprised of a selection of images. The header that you see up above is 960 pixels. A 2-column header will usually be smaller.
Some products are really great looking, especially those from affiliate companies. Your affiliate company paid a lot of money to get images with just the right lighting and angle. Don't be afraid to use those. It could be the smartest move you make.
Take a look at the Amazon carousel, use some Amazon Images on your site.
There are lots of other places where you can find images and headers for your SBI website. Even if you are a total novice at graphics, you still have lots of great options in creating a super site!
