Key Words

i have been using only one key word in the keyword box when building my pages. I hear that it helps a lot to also put in related key words. Is this true and how many key words are helpful and can you overdo it?

Answer
For the most part search engines don't seem to be reading the keyword box anymore. At least that is what a lot of people suspect. But search engines are reading the text on your page, so that is where you need to concentrate your efforts in placing keywords. Use your primary keyword (it is still a good idea to have one), and use as many alternatives as you can think of in the text of your page. As Ken said, we don't really know what the search engines are doing, and it doesn't hurt to use the keyword box, so let's continue to use it too.

If you've seen my posts in the Forums, you know that posting is one my favorite hobbies, and I've got -- well -- a lot now. The following post is my personal favorite. It actually was sent to me by my cousin, who has no idea at all that thousands of people have seen it here.

When people ask me whether to dash or not to dash their website, I usually give the example of "www.seniorsexpress.com" vs. "senior-sex-press.com" or "seniors-express.com". But I like these even better:

These are not made up. Check them out yourself!

1. Who Represents is where you can find the name of the agent that represents any celebrity. Their Web site is www.whorepresents.com

2. Experts Exchange is a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views at www.expertsexchange.com. You've GOT to take a look at their favicon (the little picture in the browser bar)!

3. Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island at www.penisland.net

4. Need a therapist? Try Therapist Finder at www.therapistfinder.com

5. The First Cumming Methodist Church Web site changed from cummingfirst.com to cummingfirstmethodist.com . Mmmm. Wonder why.

6. And the designers at Speed of Art await you at their wacky Web site, www.speedofart.com

Cheers!
