Not happy with Backpage
by: Anonymous

I am curious as to why when I look a ads on back page, no one ever replies back? I looked at a house ad months ago, no response to my questions. I looked at another ad about an interesting job a few days ago, again no response. I don't really expect an answer this time either, but thanks for listening. Al in Calgary, Alberta

BackPage and Search Engines
by: MaryAnn

Hi, L, it is always good to hear from you. There is a general rule about search engines that says they look where you link to, but they do not ding you if someone "bad" links to you. They do, of course, want you to give your visitors quality links. But very often you just don't have control over who links to you, so if there are any undesirables in the mix they just get ignored.

It is always dangerous trying to out smart the SEs. Seems that as soon as we get them figured out, they get a new algorithm. But that is the best guideline we've got so far, and it does make sense.

Nice to learn about BackPage. I get frustrated, too, with Craigslist's limitations. Think I'll wander on over to BackPage and see what I can see.

If you've seen my posts in the Forums, you know that posting is one my favorite hobbies, and I've got -- well -- a lot now. The following post is my personal favorite. It actually was sent to me by my cousin, who has no idea at all that thousands of people have seen it here.

When people ask me whether to dash or not to dash their website, I usually give the example of "www.seniorsexpress.com" vs. "senior-sex-press.com" or "seniors-express.com". But I like these even better:

These are not made up. Check them out yourself!

1. Who Represents is where you can find the name of the agent that represents any celebrity. Their Web site is www.whorepresents.com

2. Experts Exchange is a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views at www.expertsexchange.com. You've GOT to take a look at their favicon (the little picture in the browser bar)!

3. Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island at www.penisland.net

4. Need a therapist? Try Therapist Finder at www.therapistfinder.com

5. The First Cumming Methodist Church Web site changed from cummingfirst.com to cummingfirstmethodist.com . Mmmm. Wonder why.

6. And the designers at Speed of Art await you at their wacky Web site, www.speedofart.com

Cheers!
MaryAnn
