editing homepage

by Dave
(Toronto)

I recently became more "enlightened" as to keywords and how to use them. I looped back to a little more Brainstorming and also did my Tier Structure blueprint again.

Tons o' low hanging fruit and other juicy relevant keywords. Now have a blueprint of 106 pages with a whole stable of secondary keywords to act in support.

Question: I have 12 pages already up. But oh! I could've done a better job of optimizing them knowing what I now know;-)Especially my Homepage.

I read in the Forums to NEVER change filenames. But the AG says you can edit your homepage or other pages anytime.

What's the best approach for me?(only 10 visits per day right now)

If I edit keywords with my Homepage etc., do I need to re submit with Worldsubmitter?

Thanks,
Dave

moving forward...
by: Dave

Thanks MaryAnn and Gina

MaryAnn, your experience and compassion for the novice is very much appreciated.

Ken talks about the "hump"... heck, I've hit 3 or 4 already and I'm still at the beginning of the runway :-)

Thanks for helping me over this one.

Best wishes,
Dave

SEO for Home Page and Tier 2s and 3s
by: MaryAnn

OK, let's take these problems one by one.

HOME PAGE. You can edit anything on the home page that you want to. The file name will ALWAYS be "www.yoursitename.com/index.html." You can change your keyword, your description, your title, your text. Anything.

Tier 2 and T3. These are different. Each page is identified by its file name, e.g., "www.yoursitename.com/unique-keyword-filename.html".

If you change that file name you have deleted the old page and created a new page. You can change anything else on the page and it won't harm you. You can change your keyword, your title, your text, etc. So if all you want to do is optimize the page better, you can do that. If you want to change the whole keyword, then keep reading.

The easiest way to handle your problem is a two stepper:

1. Create an "articles" section and put all the old pages into that section; and

2. Write new pages for the new keywords that you have identified.

Doing this, you won't lose any traffic you may have to the old pages, and the search engines won't get upset, and you can continue building cheerfully.

(Note: "Redirects" are possible, but they are not for the novice. If I were you, I would do the Two Step.)

Changing filenames
by: Gina

If you're going to do it, I'd say do so while your traffic is low (as it is now).

I've done it myself, without negative consequences. First, I put a redirect on the old names, with a "nofollow".

Now I'm more careful choosing filenames.
